Going on vacations!
Leaving tomorrow for a whole week away, with no computer or Internet, I cannot believe it! Going to the south of France to my brother’s wedding, as well as Ryan ’s baptism: I’ll be his godfather, which I’m sure quite a few people will find laughable. Honestly, I don’t give a damn about the religious side of it, but I’m flattered Enrico and Sinead trust me to be a role model for Ryan (yeah, right).
So some more time with no updates, even though I have plenty to blog about; I’ll do a quick recap:
- I’ll be taking no less than 3 cameras with me: the new Canon 350D, the Holga and the Zorki C ; look forward to playing with them all, since in one way or another they are all new.
- the speech at Java Conference went so and so (there were a lot of technical problems due to the fact that I wasn’t allowed to test beforehand, but that was due to a misunderstanding and some underskilled staffer), but there were quite a few people and they didn’t all look bored, so I guess I’m still satisfied.
- I have been asked to put the slides online for the italian RDF community (not much stuff in italian). Most of all, I will release the stuff I wrote for the demo: Piggy Bank scrapers for 43 Places and Wikipedia country infoboxes.
- there is a lot going on around digital identity: the Sxip guys and OpenID and OSIS guys all came together, they are converging their work and moving to Apache Incubator. This is a big thing, and it’s an area I’m very interested in, so expect me to work and talk more about that.
- Google released Google Checkout and Google Account Authentication, two more so-and-so implementations of promising technologies. I’ll look into both (the latest mainly) but the first impression is that these are two more unimpressive products: from a team such as Google we should expect much more.
- been fighting Typo some more, with the intent of moving to HEAD, but couldn’t get it to work with neither CGI nor FastCGI. But even if I did, I’m starting to be bored at the lack of progress in the most lacking and most important areas such as spam control and moderation. At this stage I think that if I can find another software that I can easily migrate to, I am amost ready to switch.
I am turning comments off to avoid problems while I am away, so if you have anything to say, please drop me an email.
Talk to you next monday!
