beta!
So… as you can probably tell from my silence which has lasted for two months, I have been very busy with 60+ hours a week, a lot of traveling and all that, but The Venice Project is finally live and public!
The website has been there for a while, and a few lucky people have been running internal builds, but starting this week it is possible for anybody to apply to be a beta tester—or get some friend to invite them (no, I don’t have invitation tokens left now, but if you are kind and buy me beer, I may invite you when I get more :D).
The blogosphere has been abuzz about The Venice Project for a while, with some accurate and some less accurate reports; and of course now that much of the secrecy has been lifted, you’ll be able to read about it on the “blogs” of many Venice people. Just as interesting, you might want to look at the official blog as well as Janus Friis (you know, like, Skype’s founder?) go more into the business side of this and all.
I won’t go into too many details now (especially as there is a Christmas party coming up in a few minutes), but I do think it is a very exciting project. Just looking at the Open Source projects and technologies people are involved with should give you some idea of how interesting and challenging (not to mention huge) this thing is: Apache, Cocoon, Dojo, Jena, Mozilla, RDF, SVG, XML, XUL.
So, while you all wait to get hold of your invitaion, I’ll leave you with a nice screenshot.
UPDATED 20071004: the original screenshots are gone, but you can see more on the Joost website.
